The Benefits of Learning as a Service (LaaS)
Our all-in-one Learning-as-a-Service model is delivered entirely through the cloud on a monthly or yearly subscription, so you don’t have to worry about maintaining hardware or updating software. This means:
- No downtime. You can depend on your system to be available and running smoothly 24/7. We’re always working behind the scenes to manage everything relating to hardware, software, security, and updates.
- No surprises. You get one bill, one vendor, and one consistent Thinking Cap experience.
- No worries. When you need a hand or have a question, support is always available.
Auto-scaling and fault tolerant
We’re committed to delivering the fastest, smoothest, and most dependable service for your LMS. That’s why we use Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS, the largest and most powerful hosting platforms in the world. That means we can deliver your LMS services on the same platforms that deliver Amazon, Skype, Office 365, Bing, and Xbox, and it allows us to offer you a best-in-industry service level agreement of 99.95%.
It won’t slow down
Your need for resources can be unpredictable. You could have 100 learners on your system one day and 5,000 the next. We built Thinking Cap to handle these unpredictable needs. It can ramp up the resources whenever you need them and can handle any number of users and learning objects at any given time. The ability to boost its power and resources is one of the things that makes your Thinking Cap LMS great.
It’s as secure as it gets
Your organization’s security is one of our top priorities, and we monitor and protect your data with the same diligence we do our own. We also recognize the importance of data sovereignty, which means all your data is housed in Canada. Further, Microsoft has an industry-leading commitment to protecting the privacy and security of your data. It was the first cloud provider recognized by the European Union’s (EU) data protection authorities for their commitment to rigorous EU privacy laws. Microsoft was also the first major cloud provider to adopt the new international cloud privacy standard, ISO 27018.
Local data storage and global content delivery
Azure runs on a worldwide network of data centres across 21 regions, including mainland China. Protecting your data and privacy is critical for cloud services. This is why we match the storage of customer data to a single political border and perform backups in data centres that are within those borders but still not less than 500 miles from the primary data centre.
This helps make your data leaner, but we also want your course content to be as close to your learners as possible, wherever your learners happen to be. To do this, we store your learning resources in a content delivery network across the globe. So, when your learner takes a course in Hong Kong, London, or Duluth, they’re loading course files from a server close to them, which means a great experience with low latency. The data for their account and the record of their experience is still housed in your national data centre, but the heavy image, audio, and video files are served to the learner locally. And because Thinking Cap is a service, we set all this up in advance at no extra cost.
We take security very seriously. This includes application security inside Thinking Cap and physical security in our data centres. Whether you need to report to the FDA on 21 CFR Part 11 or are bound by PCI ecommerce standards, your data is safe in the Thinking Cap LMS. Below is a list of the independently verified security compliance certifications that protect your data:
- ISO 27001/27002
- SOC 1/SSAE 16/ISAE 3402 and SOC 2
- Cloud Security Alliance CCM
- FBI CJIS (Azure Government)
- PCI DSS Level 1
- United Kingdom G-Cloud
- Australian Government IRAP
- Singapore MTCS Standard
- EU Model Clauses
- Food and Drug Administration 21 CFR Part 11

At Thinking Cap, we layer on application security to the bedrock hosting security:

- Password freshness and complexity rules and practices
- Two-factor authentication option
- OAuth2, SAML2 and Open ID federated single sign on
- In-depth logging and intrusion detection
- Course-level identity verification tools
- Obfuscation of user metadata from display and reporting
